Saving an iData Mobile Datafile
As an iData Pro Datafile
iData Pro 3, 4, and 5 datafiles have an
.id3 file name extension.
(iData Mobile Plus also uses .id3
datafiles.)
iData Mobile datafiles have an .idm
file name extension.
iData Mobile uses a datafile format that is very similar to the
format
used by iData Pro. The main difference is that the iData Mobile
equivalent of the Freeform Text Area cannot contain multi-styled
text,
embedded links, images, or music files.
When saved in iData Pro format, all Freeform Text Area
content will be converted to multi-styled text.
If you are converting your iData Mobile datafiles to iData Pro
format
in preparation for moving them to iData Mobile Plus, be sure that
they
are all up-to-date and have all been synchronized before you begin.
Save any changes.
To save a copy of an iData Mobile datafile in iData Pro format:
1. Open the iData Mobile datafile.
NOTE: If you want to convert an .idm datafile that you have been
editing, be sure to save your changes first.
2. Select Save As iData Pro
Datafile... in the File
menu.
3. The default name of the new datafile will be the name of the
original datafile, but with the .id3
file name extension. However, you must not change or remove
the .id3 extension. iData
Mobile Plus will
not recognize files that do not have this extension.
4 When the Save As iData Pro
Datafile dialog comes up, make sure that you will be saving
the new datafile to your usual Datafile folder (normally either iData 3 Datafiles or iData Pro Datafiles), then click
the Save button. The new
datafile will be opened, and the
original will be closed.
This process doesn't really "convert" your existing .idm datafiles. Rather, it saves
their content in .id3
format. Your old .idm
datafiles will remain unchanged.
If, for example, you converted a datafile called MyDatafile.idm, you would now
see MyDatafile.id3 open in
iData Pro 4, but MyDatafile.idm
would still be in your Datafiles folder where it was when you
started.
