Two Ways to Dial a Number (back to top)

iData provides two ways to dial a phone number that you have stored in a datafile record:

    1. Telephone numbers can be treated as URL-style links, preceded by tel:// and dialed via iPhone.

    2. iData can also recognize telephone numbers in text, and can dial them using a modem or by generating touch tones that are played through the computer speaker system. This works by treating telephone numbers as URL-style links. T

Using Phone Number Links to Dial an iPhone  (back to top)

NOTE: See this Apple article to learn how to set up your iPhone to allow other devices, such as your Mac (or iPad) to dial telephone numbers: Make and Receive Phone Calls on Your Mac

Clickable phone number links can be created in two ways:

    1. You can simply type tel:// at the beginning of a telephone number in the Freeform Text Area, or in a field, then remove any spaces from the number.

For example, the following phone number:

            (123) 555-1234

        would look like this:

            tel://(123)555-1234

Next, click the icon in the datafile toolbar, or type command-control-A to activate the link.

    2. You can also assign a phone number link to any piece of text in the Freeform Text Area, as follows:
        a. Select the freeform text and type command-control-L to open the Link panel. Or, click the button in the toolbar.

        b. Type the phone number link into the Link destination: box, as shown in the following illustration.

        c. Click OK, and the link will become active.

        d. Click the link to dial. (Assuming that your Mac and iPhone are set up to do so.)

Permanent links that are created in this way will also be tappable in iData Mobile Plus on the iPhone.

Once your Dialing Preferences and Modem Preferences are set up, you can use iData Pro to dial numbers that you have stored in your datafiles. See the How iData Decides What to Dial section of the Dialing Preferences help page to learn the various ways that iData can find the number that you want to dial.

    1. Locate the record containing the number that you want to dial.

    2. If appropriate, highlight the number to be dialed, or click immediately in front of it.

    3. Lift the handset of the telephone.

    4. Select one of the Dial menu options, click one of the toolbar Dial buttons, or type command-D, depending on which dialing function you want to use.
